PIO Winter 2018-19: New Release and Sneaker Tips

Amongst the plethora of accessories that exist, shoes might just be the best accessory to complete an outfit for anyone. Although PIO does not sell sneakers (YET!), sneakers are one of the best shoes to rock with your PIO gear. PIO’s Kerrick Faulkner is quite the connoisseur of sneakers.  Take a look at his suggestions for the perfect pairing with our new winter release products.

We Don’t Need Their Approval Hoodie

First up: the RBG “We Don’t Need Their Approval” heather grey hoodies.

Kerrick’s Top Sneaker Picks

“Air Jordan 1 Black/Red:  A classic, timeless design that pairs perfectly with our “We Don’t Need Their Approval” hoodie and tees.”

“Nike SF Air Force 1 High Triple Black:  A modern updated classic that goes perfect with the powerful message that is “We Don’t Need Their Approval.”

“Vans Old Skool x A Tribe Called Quest:  Zulu Nation…it only makes sense.  The famous cover art of The Low End Theory, the second album by A Tribe Called Quest, makes its way to the Vans Old Skool. Inspired by the album’s depiction of a female form made up of strokes in red, green and black, similar colorful lines make up the side panels of the shoe. The look is paired with a black toe box, sole and jazz-stripe, while the custom sneaker is finished with The Low End Theory-inspired lettering on the laces.”

The “I LOVE” Sweatshirt

“Join the Love Campaign by purchasing this powerful sweatshirt that transcends love of self. It’s one of our staple designs imagined on a heather maroon sweatshirt with cream text. The fit is roomy which is perfect for the winter season. The color way makes for a nice style pairing with the following sneakers.”

“adidas Continental 80:  “Classic design in a cream colorway, combining for a clean, crisp, classic feel!  Catch a retro tennis style on the rise. These shoes are inspired by indoor sneakers from the early 1980s. They’re made in full grain leather for a soft and supple feel.”

“Jordan 6 Retro Maroon:  First released as one of five original colorways in 1991, the Air Jordan 6 ‘Maroon’ was the only OG color to never see a retro release. Nike finally revived this classic in 2015 when its first retro was released as part of a massive Holiday drop. The design features branding details that include the Jumpman logo on the shoe’s rubber tongue and lace overlay as well as OG elements like the Nike Air branding on the heel and clear, translucent outsole.”

“As Power In One continues to honor Mother Africa, we honor the strength, endurance, creativity, and love from our Ancestors that GUIDES and PROTECTS us each and every day!

This unisex long sleeve tee is in heather navy with a reflective gold print and features the Power In One logo on the back tag area. Express your Power and honor the Power from the Ancestors!”

Kerrick’s Top Sneaker Picks

“Timberland 6-inch Premium Construction:  When you think of Timberland® boots, you’re thinking of these. The original waterproof boot was designed more than 40 years ago and remains a best-seller today, with tireless waterproof performance and instantly recognizable work-boot styling.”

“Nike Air Max 98:  95 and 97 may be numbers that loom particularly large in the imagination when it comes to Air Max, but 1998 was a bumper crop year in the field of air cushioned sneakers. Twenty years on from 1998, anniversary celebrations are underway; some 98 models are popular favorites, others are underrated gems, but all of them are classics.  The Air Max 98 kept the full length Max Air sole, and made performance-enhancing tweaks to the upper design, notably a synthetic leather and mesh upper reduced weight from previous models and an external lacing structure. An overall, more athletically inspired design distinguished the 98 from its immediate predecessors.”

Thanks Kerrick for your helpful sneaker styling suggestions. As one of the managing partners of Power in One, it’s cool to see how his sense of style influences the designs we produce. Feel free to follow him on instagram @ dabrownhulk.  Enjoy the new PIO winter gear and stay empowered!
